General Guidelines

Multi-World Technologies, LLC is not a mass email provider, but we do allow our clients to send some email from our platform. Sending mass amounts of email messages can present risks to our entire network, and we do take the necessary steps to ensure that our network IP addresses are not abused by clients who run spamming campaigns from their Joomla! site.

If an outside network identifies a Multi-World Technologies, LLC IP address for sending spam, the entire Multi-World Technologies, LLC network suffers. Our goals are to enable clients to send an adequate amount of emails, monitor for any abuse that may occur, and prevent our IP addresses from being blacklisted.

Our basic email guidelines are outlined below. If they do not suit your needs, we suggest that you invest in a separate emailing software that is outside of your Joomla site or a third party e-mailing service such as iContact, MailChimp or Constant Contact (among other services). Any email that you attempt to send that exceeds your hourly limit be returned as undeliverable. Your email limit refreshes every hour. We will monitor your email limits, and if you continue to hit your limit, one of our engineers will contact you to review your account.

If you’re unsure how to send mass mail from your site appropriately and you continually abuse the network, you could lose the ability to send mail from your site altogether. We suggest that you follow the email guidelines below while monitoring your email limits. If you’re reaching mail limits, but not sending mass emails, please contact us directly.

Multi-World Technologies, LLC Network Email Limits

There is a outgoing hourly email limit on all Multi-World Technologies, LLC servers. Email limits refresh every hour.

Limits per Account

Hourly Limit for each email account = 500 emails/hour

Suspending Email Service

We monitor all sites for those that consistently meet or exceed hourly email limits. Purposefully running spam campaigns is the most common reason for reaching email limits, but your site may also be the target of a spam campaign. We reserve the right to turn off the PHP email function on your site if your email is being abused under any circumstance. Abuse can be intentional or unintentional, and we will notify you in either case.

3rd Party Mail Relay Services

You may contract a 3rd party email relay service if it suits your needs. Many times we suggest that you use a 3rd party relay service rather than trying to mass email from our network. Many relay services are built to deliver email in an organized and systematic way, and you can rest assured that you are not abusing your email limits. Using a 3rd party email relay service will require you to authenticate SMTP settings in your Joomla! site. Typically, you can use port 465 for SSL connections or port 587 for TLS/plain connections. We recommend to use port 587. Port 25 outbound will not work through our platform. We block this port because it’s typically used for sending spam. We recommend acyMailing for sending mass emails if you are looking for a built-in extension for Joomla to handle your campaign emailing needs. Most outside services such as Constant Contact, iContact and MailChimp have bridges or connectors that integrate with your Joomla site.

Mailing Lists Rules

You will need to upgrade to a Dedicated Hosted Account if you intend to mass email your users. Any time you're sending an email message, no matter how large the email list, it must be throttled. This means that you automatically stagger the amount of emails that you send at any one time. At the very least, we recommend that you throttle your email so you’re sending 1 email every 8 seconds. This will allow you to send 450 emails within 1 hour, keeping you below the 500 outgoing email limit. If you have any other plan, you’ll have to throttle your emails accordingly. We recommend acyMailing for monitoring email limits.

Double Opt-In Lists

A double opt-in list is when a user has subscribed for a newsletter or other email marketing message by explicitly requesting it and confirming the email address to be their own. Confirmation is usually done by responding to a notification/confirmation email sent to the email address the end user specified. The double opt-in method eliminates the chance of abuse where somebody submits someone else's email address without their knowledge and against their will. You will not be permitted to mail any mailing list that you were given or purchased. In doing so, this will also be considered spamming and may result in termination of the offending account. Email scripts must be able to handle and document all information from a double opt-in list. This includes processing opt-outs (via web or email) and list removal on bounce backs. All opt-outs or bounce back removals must be handled in a timely manner, and outbound mail must be throttled on Pro Accounts to a maximum of four hundred and fifty (450) emails per hour. If your account is found to be using a script that does not meet these requirements, Multi-World Technologies, LLC reserves the right to suspend, terminate, or deactivate your script or account.

Unsolicited/Unintentional Email

Any unsolicited e-mail being sent will result in immediate suspension or termination of the offending account. To protect all of our customers, we have zero tolerance for anyone sending unsolicited email or other forms of spam from our network.

The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003

The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 are national standards for sending commercial email. Any mailing list MUST comply with all guidelines set forth by the United States government. These can be found at The Bureau of Consumer Protection.
